About Me
Animals have always been a part of my life. As a young child our family had dogs and cats which were later joined by several guinea pigs, two hamsters, and a lone beta fish named Mofty. So many pictures of myself as a child include one of these four legged family members- many of whom I now realize were being very patient with me. One family dog in particular- a black lab mix named Maggie- always seemed willing to serve as an off track roadway for my toy cars.
At the age of six- my neighbor moved four horses into the empty barn on our small farm which sparked in me a life long love of all things equine. As I learned to read, I would check out every available horse book from my elementary school library and read them over and over as I sat on the grass outside the pasture fence. Sometimes I would sit there for hours, just waiting for these magnificent friends to come back towards the barn, so I could feed them handfuls of grass and spend time with them.
Even when I wasn't hanging out with an animal directly, my favorite place to be was outside in the natural world. Every leaf and blade of grass held wonder for me- a connection to the Divine in us all. I spent hours outside- sitting in the woods, wandering through the fields around our home, and hiking and canoeing with my parents. I was taught from a young age to sit still in the canoe as we slowed down in the shallow water towards the bank- this was where the wildlife was easy to spot if you were quiet and still enough to notice.
Eventually as a teenager, I was able to combine this love for animals and my affinity for being outside when I was offered a summer job at a horse camp. I had found my natural habitat and I lived and worked there for nine wonderful summers. This farm in the beautiful rolling hills of Maryland, which was filled with horses, ponies, dogs, and cats, was my idea of heaven. The work was hard- I spent a lot of time weed-whacking endless pasture fence- and the sleeping arrangements less than plush- we slept in a bunk made from a converted chicken coop- but I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. Even cleaning goose poop off of the docks (not one of my favorite tasks) brought with it a kind of earthy understanding of the nature and animals that I loved.
There has never been a time when I haven't sought connection with the animals and natural world around me- from the time I was a small child I have wanted them to know that I love them and that I want to get to know them for who they really are. My greatest heartfelt desire is for animals and their people to find in me an understanding and compassionate ally and friend. It is truly a dream come true to bring all of this into my work as an animal communicator and energy healer.
